THAT OLD ROCKING CHAIR

Welcome to Saturday morning in my little corner of the world - oh boy what a wet wet week this has been.    We reached the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year and winter held us tightly in her grip for most of the week.   It hasn't been very windy but there have been very heavy falls of rain for long hours and everything is squelchy under foot.

It has been a quiet week and one of keeping warm and dry.  I did go for a walk in the rain to mail some letters, and it was lovely - just a steady soaking rain  - me and my beautiful new umbrella.   All was well until coming home I was waiting to cross a road and standing on the traffic island when a big truck went past - yes you guessed. ~ big truck, wet roads, rain = wet Linda. It didn't matter because I was on my way home and could change out of the wet clothes.

Winter days mean comfort food and my slow cookers have been pressed into service and I have been making soups and casseroles and I have shared the soups and also stocked up my freezer for times when I don't want to cook.

How easy my life is - slow cookers to gently cook my food which can be left unattended and freezers for storing up for the winter.  I feel rather like a squirrel gathering for the winter.   When all this is done I have the dishwasher to help me clean up.  How spoiled I am!

The heading of this post "That Old Rocking Chair" is a reference to worry and it giving us something to do but not getting us anywhere.  I try so hard not to worry and I am much better than I used to be - but there are times when the gremlins get in and the worry fairy visits ~ I guess we all have those times.

Times when we "worry" about our health, our children, our family, friends, and just life in general and I have the rocking chair but am refusing to sit in in very often.  I live my life in possibility and in hope - turning my face to the sun so that the shadows are behind me.

Not worrying does not mean not caring or being concerned - of course we carry concern in our hearts but the agonizing worry is not good for us.

Dust off the rocking chair, admire it from afar, but refuse to sit and rock for very long as you won't get anywhere.   Live your life with faith and trust and hope.

Being shut in has means I have been "shopping" on line and had a wonderful time buying a pink leather cover for my new iPhone (I bet you are surprised at the colour - hehehe) a little surprise for a cherished friend, and a special gift that I promised I would research and I found the perfect one.

My lovely Laptop bag arrived on Monday and I am delighted - it was a Mother's Day gift from my daughters and I am really really pleased.

Today is Saturday and cold and grey again, but only light showers and it is a quiet catch up day for me.   I plan to take an outing to the river to take some photographs this afternoon and I will post them in my next post.

Sunday I have a new challenge - "The Golden Girls" - Ilona, Dianne, Narelle and I are doing a Japanese Cooking class in the afternoon - I have all my ingredients and Dianne is printing the booklet for me - Thanks Di !
This should be a challenge and it will be lots of fun - I imagine there will be lots of laughter and giggles.  I really don't know why I said yes but it will be an outing and an experience with a difference.  I'll let you know and perhaps share a recipe.

Wherever you are on this Friday night/Saturday morning I hope you are enjoying time with those you love, relaxing and generally just enjoying yourself.   Life is sweet and good most of the time - there are those who are struggling with their load at the moment and my love and care surrounds them.  Life does get tough for us, in spite of the fact that we know in our hearts we are doing the right thing.   There are times when everything piles up and we feel we are getting left behind - one step at a time and all will resolve.

I send you all love and care and thoughts for whatever is happening for you in your little corner of the world.   Try to find some time for YOU this weekend, sometime in your garden, going out to dinner, walking on the beach or like me - beside a wet and full river.  If it is summer time - make sure you enjoy long cold drinks and find some shade and if like me you are in winter - get out your boots and coat and walk in the cold air.   I did think of a shopping trip - but it is much easier on line - hehehe.

Thank you for visiting the musings of my heart - a contented and happy heart, which also feels concern for those I love ~ and please try to keep out of the rocking chair.

Love and hugs,
Linda.

WELCOME TO SATURDAY AND GALLERIES OF PINK GALAHS

"Galleries of Pink Galahs"

John Williamson - "Galleries of Pink Galahs"

"Galleries of pink galahs,
Crystal nights with diamond stars,
Apricots preserved in jars,
That's my home.

Land of oceans in the sun,
Purple hazes, river gum,
Breaks your heart when rain won't come,
It breaks your heart.

It takes a harsh and cruel drought
To sort the weaker saplings out,
It makes room for stronger trees
Maybe that's what life's about.

Winter's come, the hills are brown,
Shops are closed, the blinds are down.
Every body's leaving town,
They can't go on.

The south wind through verandah gauze
Whines and bangs the homestead doors.
A mother curses dusty floors,
And feels alone.

Trucks and bulk bins filled with rust,
Boy leaves home to make a crust.
A father's dreams reduced to dust,
But he must go on.

Tortured red gums - unashamed,
Sun burnt country wisely named.
Chisel-ploughed and wire-claimed,
But never, never, never tamed.

Whirlwind swirls a paper high,
Same old news of further dry.
Of broken clouds just passing by,
That's my home."

Good Morning and welcome to a beautiful Saturday morning in my little corner of the world - we are forecast for 30 degrees (88) and rain later in the day - all is well and I am looking forward to a productive day.  I have lots of things planned - but am going to include an afternoon nap so that I am bright eyed and bushy tailed for my outing this evening.
Ilona and I are going to a John Williamson concert which we have had booked for five months and it seemed it would never get here - but today is the day.

We are having dinner out at an Italian Restaurant in the City and I am excited about both dinner and the Show - and hoping it all goes well.   I am sure it will.

Well, here we are at the weekend - What are your plans for these two days when we like to lower the speed, change gear and just cruise a little slower?

I know some of you have plans for a weekend by the sea and in winter weather I can think of nothing nicer - hope it brings all the joy and pleasure you are looking for.   Travel safely and ENJOY.

My plans for today are for to do some working on Christmas things because is it really on it's way at a very great pace.  I need to sort through gifts and re-write shopping lists and get into the spirit of things.

I have lots of other things to do but I will just take things steadily and perhaps play some lovely music or watch a DVD while I work on things.   A lovely day ahead for me.

I hope you can find lovely things to do and special people to share your days with - perhaps your little children are excited about Christmas coming - make some Christmas craft with them - some decorations for your tree.   I still have some made by my girls over 30 years ago and if I happen not to put them out - they go looking for them.

Perhaps you day will take you to a beach on a warm day - cover up Slip Slop Slap etc. but enjoy the water and the waves, or maybe you will walk down a green and shaded lane - wherever you are recall that we do indeed living in a beautiful world and be thankful.

I am writing again and listening to much more music and feeling very much more alive and I offer thanks to a special someone who has brought this about.

Health wise - feet still a little swollen and I am off for bloods on Monday so hoping all is well.

Thanks for visiting and reading the "Musings from My Heart" - a heart and head full of music and the joy of being alive.

Love and hugs,
Linda.

P.S. - there were five galahs on my front lawn this morning.

IT'S FRIDAY AND THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE WATER

Brooke Fraser - Something in the Water.

Good morning and welcome to Friday - and I think there must be something in the water - something has got me singing and bouncing around this morning.

It really is just another ordinary Friday and the sky is grey and we are forecast rain, but there is something keeping me bubbling along this morning - singing and probably driving the neighbours crazy.

I really do enjoy this song and this New Zealand girl is doing very well and I have introduced this to several people and most of them really like it too.

I have had a change this morning in that I have done my grocery shopping today instead of Saturday.  The reason is that tomorrow will be my jewellery class.   I am quite excited about it and have my lunch things ready to pack.  It will be a different day for me and I hope I have the stamina to keep up for the day.   I shall get off to bed early in readiness.

News in this morning is that McKenzie has been for another procedure and they have placed two tiny cameras inside to try to work out what is happening.    Crosby is back in the news too because his bloods were not good this week.  Amber is back home and her two little boys are together again - such a lovely thing and cause for gratitude.

I have never met these families, and probably will not - but there is a love and affection brought about by the connection of the transplant experience and this brings about very great care and concern.

I am wondering what is on your agenda for your Friday and for your weekend.  Crossword puzzles and lunch with Ray for me - we are both trying to keep our minds sharp and alert and it is fun to share the knowledge - he knows lots that I don't and I know lots that he has never heard of.   Then a quiet afternoon and early night for me.

I had a phone call from Melbourne - Naomi and Alexis are safely in the Garden City and looking forward to a busy weekend of concerts and a visit to the Display of Tutankhamen. They are home on Sunday afternoon and then back to work and study.  Be great for them to dine out and paint Melbourne red for the weekend.  They have friends there and Alexis has relatives (her brother and others).

Quiz night on Saturday for other members of the family, but I will be home and warm.

Whatever your plans for the weekend are - I wish you good company, good food and safe travelling.  If you have been feeling a little under par take the weekend to rest up and restore and recover. For us in the Southern Hemisphere it is nice to snuggle up on a cold winter day and read and rest.

If you are enjoying your summer - slash in pools, drink lots of water and remember your sun screen.

I noticed this morning that there is blossom on my Almond tree - a sure sign that spring is on the way ( a little early I suspect) but it will be beautiful to see and lovely to see the petals in a flurry around the garden.

Be warm, be safe and be loved.
Thanks for visiting the Musings from My Heart and I wish you a peaceful day/night.,

Love and hugs,
