Welcome to another Saturday - this time it's showery in my little corner of the world. Just the sort of day to sit in and watch some sentimental movies.
I spent some time watching clips from two of my favourite films and

Katharine Hepburn was my all time favourite Movie Star. There are two films which stand clear in my mind (among many) but these two touched my heart most of all.
"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"
and
"On Golden Pond"
Listen to the the music from either film - your choice.
From Guess who's Coming to Dinner -
"That's the Glory of Love"
or the opening music from On Golden Pond -

I loved the gutsy way she ran her life and her outspoken manner and the way she lived - she took swims often in the very cold water that fronted her Bay side home in Connecticut - this she did well into her 80's. She excelled at golf and that gravelly voice could always be recognized.
Her love affair with Spencer Tracey continued right up to his death just after the completion of filming of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" and it was her niece Katharine Houghton who stared in that film. (Her sister's child). She provided wonderful entertainment and collected her share of Oscars along the way:

When thinking about this blog during another sleepless night - it came to me how many people had watched "Kate" and admired her - I did - my own daughter is Naomi "Kate" and it came to me that although we are not famous or stars of the Silver Screen - indeed people do watch us.
They watch and listen to the things we say and note the values we espouse, this is particularly so with children who try to imitate and emulate those they watch. The little things we do - the way we walk and the things we say, the way we hold our cutlery can soon be seen in the children around us. They pick up those things so easily. Grace is learning to do Sudoku puzzles because Papa does and when a little younger would do a crossword puzzle with a letter in each square because he does. All of this is so true about the things we say.
We need to be careful to leave them a role model to be proud of and by our actions raise them to be responsible citizens. It is a great honour to be able to have children learn from us.
Our moods rub off on others too - if we are happy then we create a happy atmosphere around us and from thankful adults will come thankful children.
It is the weekend here already and although the day is cloudy and wet, I am sure there will be things to smile about and be thankful for. What more could I ask for than to be alive and well enough to enjoy time with family and friends and to celebrate Naomi Kate's birthday. There will be barbeque, salads, and all sorts of other goodies and a carrot cake (her favourite.) Although my family has grown I know they still watch me - perhaps in a different way, but they look to me and for that I am grateful.
My gratitude this morning is:
"I am thankful for my daughters and the joy they bring."
I wish for you a beautiful weekend, with those you love and those who love you and I celebrate family and friends in whom I see beauty coming from a kind and generous soul. I too watch and delight in the joys that friendship brings. The little things, the surprises, a gift "just for" - a phone call or card in the mail which says "I thought of you today".
Enjoy this weekend in sunshine or in shadow, it will be what you make it but be sure to nurture your soul and find the beauty around you.
Relax, read a book, watch a movie, take a walk - enjoy the life that is yours and thank you for visiting "The Musings from My Heart."
With love and hugs

Thanks for the start to a wonderful day. I have mowed the lawn and am enjoying the smell of freshly mown grass as I listen to "On Golden Pond". Perfect!
