IT'S THANKFUL THURSDAY AND SING US A SONG YOU'RE THE PIANO MAN

Good Morning and here we are with the music of Billy Joel and The Piano Man - beautiful music that I just love. There are so many of his songs I could have chosen to represent my love of music but this one fits just fine.

My heritage is from Wales and the Celt in me loves music and poetry which is why there is always a song to fit with my writing. I just wish I sang better than I do or that I was able to play an instrument - Piano would be lovely.  Not to entertain anyone but just to spend time playing for myself.  I enjoy most kinds of music and the writing of many many people.

This morning in this beautiful City of Churches is glorious - sunny, cool and a great day to be alive.   When I was out driving yesterday I became aware of lots of trees that seem to have grown so much recently - I am thinking that the rains we have had have been welcomed by very thirsty trees.

The little tree outside my home has grown and now the leaves are starting to turn - a sure sign that winter is on the way.  I love this time of year when a beautiful autumn sun shines through golden leaves and dapples the ground underneath.

TREES

_____
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A Tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

How wonderful it is to seek out the shade of a lovely tree in summer heat, to kick through the leaves in autumn and to watch in wonder as the new buds form and the tree awakes from winter rest.   We have tall gum trees and lots of trees brought from other climes - but all have beauty in their own way.

I love the River near my home in winter when the trees stand stark naked and cast eerie shadows and the river rushes on. I have always spent time with trees (often climbing them) and at other times lying reading books under their protective cover.

I recall a story book I had as a child which told the story of a little mouse who was very cold and a beautiful oak tree shed it's last leaf for the mouse to wrap himself in like a coat.  Memory is strange - I have no idea of the name of the book or in fact where it is now but I remember the story of generosity on the part of the tree and the gratitude of the little mouse.

"Thankful Thursday" comes from a full heart - my gratitude is for family as always, for friends, for the opportunity to meet face to face someone I have known for a long time.  I am thankful for the safety of friends during an incident in their car.  I am thankful for medical research and vaccines that will hopefully keep me well.   I am thankful for music and I am thankful for trees.I am thankful for life itself.

Story books and memory is a blog for another day.

Enjoy the trees around you, see their beauty and be grateful for them.

Today I have some shopping to do and will do that early - birthday gifts to track down.   I am well but a little tired and have a sore arm from my flu shot -  but I don't mind that because having that shot could certainly save my life.  It was a combined Swine Flu and General strain vaccine and I was asked to sit and wait for l5 minutes in the waiting room afterwards to see that I was alright.   I refused to do this because sitting there for any longer than I have to exposes me to all sorts of germs.  The waiting room was full of people coughing and spluttering.  I very nicely told the Nurse I would sit for 15 mins in my car and then drive home.    A quarter of an hour reading in the car with the warmth of winter sun wasn't hard to do.   I enjoyed the warmth and when I looked at the clock 25 minutes had passed - I was lost in my book.

Today is shaping up to be an "ordinary" day and I welcome those days with open arms because I remember all too well the times when I ached for, cried for and pleaded for "ordinary days."  The days of tests, surgery, procedures and medical test were taxing and these "ordinary" days bring me joy.

Have a wonderful day - if you are at work perhaps you can take your lunch outside and sit by a tree, maybe you can see some trees from your Office window and I hope that somewhere in your busy day you can see and appreciate the beauty of a tree.

To those who have young children - take them for a walk and look at trees through their eyes - show them the wonder of a tree in leaf, a tree dropping leaves,  Collect some leaves, make a collage with them.  Enjoy them.

Whatever you are doing, where ever you are in the world enjoy music (whatever form it takes) and enjoy nature and thank you for taking the time to visit "The Musings From My Heart.

Love and hugs,

and "Thank you for the Music."

Thank you for the poem Trees. I had only ever heard the first two lines if this. I too see the beauty in trees. I don't know how many I have photographed over the years; don't know the species. Trees shedding their bark are beautiful. Often a dead tree enhances a beautiful photograph - not to forget they are nesting places for many of our gorgeous birds. LoveJanis

I can just see you telling them No, sitting outside. But I was surprised you got lost in a book (how unlike you,eye roll) and not lost in the trees, they are stunning, beautiful and every one of them unique

I will be looking for more of his poetry, loved that poem!
